Introduction

Morgan Sindall’s sustainable values are similar to our valued client Transport for London. With the Overground station upgrade at Surrey Quays, we’re working to strict design targets for carbon and responsible sourcing of materials, as well as minimising waste and processing it in the most responsible way possible. Qflow enables both off-site and office-based teams to report confidently against those targets, ensuring we deliver against our design promises.

Qflow makes it easy to track and monitor scope 3 and embodied carbon during construction. Being able to share accurate, as-built data with key internal and external stakeholders is a great help too.

Elizabeth Howarth | Environmental Manager – Rail

Before having Qflow I spent hours per week chasing paperwork from site to reconcile invoices with proof of deliveries and meet prompt payment targets with our supply chain. Now, I can access this in a few clicks, confident that the information will be there and accurate.

Ben Khan | Senior Cost Manager – Rail

Morgan Sindall is trialling Qflow on the Surrey Quays station upgrade project, to better understand how it will help to improve understanding and evidence what happens during the construction process.

Based on the results of the first 12 months, we’ve found that:

  • Site teams are empowered to report from where they stand, and be involved in our sustainability journey without this responsibility impacting on their day.
  • We now have full visibility of our Supply Chain, beyond our own subcontractors. This means we can be sure the whole project is delivering on its commitments, and make informed decisions about who we want to work with.
  • Being automatically notified of any materials or waste movements that don’t comply with our expectations means we can rectify any issues swiftly and efficiently – leaving our teams to focus on more strategic and valuable work. We’re saving hours on collating and reporting data to our carbon consultants, AtkinsRéalis, who are completing the as-built whole life cycle carbon assessment through OneClickLCA. Now, AtkinsRéalis can simply access clean and audited materials data to upload into OneClickLCA within a couple of clicks.
  • We have an improved understanding of design-stage carbon assumptions and on-site waste, helping to identify improvements in cost/carbon estimates on future projects. Qflow has significantly reduced the time it takes to collect and upload carbon emissions

We’ve known about Qflow for some time and have been looking forward to having the chance to use it on a live project. It’s simple to use, and reassuring to have live and reliable materials data at our fingertips during construction. With this, we can continually update the whole life carbon assessment and ensure our reporting is the best it can be. As a result, our relationship with our client and other stakeholders improved, and our knowledge of construction-stage carbon is far better, both for this project and in future.
